This is the original video for In the Sun by She and Him - our task was to remake this using all members of our class and we were then asked to edit it in pairs.
This is the final version of our remake of the In the Sun music video:
Evaluation:
WWW: Most shots were in perfect sync which immediately made the music video more professional. It was important for us to make sure that the shots were the right length so that all shots would be in sync with eachother otherwise the music video would be out of sync and therefore would not make sense.
WWW: During the planning stages of the remake we were very organised as a group which made the shooting of the remake extremely stress-free. We were able to acheive this by allocating specific tasks to pairs of people so that everything could be completed in a good amount of time. We also planned who was going to be the camera man for each shot and also who was going to direct it - so this made it easy to shoot the shots quickly and easily.
WWW: We all worked well as a team which allowed us to shoot the shots on schedule and of a good standard - without our team work it would be extremely difficult to complete the task on time. When there was a problem, we attempted to resolve them as quickly as we could so that we wouldn't waste any more valuble time.
WWW: As we researched and watched the original music video a lot and made a story board of the different shots we successfully remade the music video very similar to the original one - this made it look more professional and therefore made the remake a successful one.
EBI: As we shot on different days (there was about a week between these days) some of the cast did not remember what they were wearing on the first day, which made it difficult to keep the continuity of the shots because the clothing was different on both days - this made the music video slightly unprofessional in that aspect.
EBI: Some parts of the music video which we had to remake the dance sequence the dance we re-made was not rehearsed well enough and it was a little unprofessional and was not similar to the original music video.
EBI: Some of the shots were not accurate and were not that similar to the original video, so we should have re-shot some of the shots which we thought would not work then we could have picked between a variety of different takes and pick the best one.
EBI: There were - at times - some confusion as to who was directing what and who was shooting what, so in order to improve on this we should make sure every one is clear what they need to do before we start filming otherwise this will waste time we need for shooting.
Editing:
Things that went well whilst editing the music video:
Myself and my partner were able to work well together because we delegated different tasks to eachother and we helped eachother with the editing because we were both unsure of the software we were using but with the right co operation we were able to complete the editing of the music video.
We kept the original music video up in a different tab so we could easily refer back to it when we needed to - this helped us get the music in sync with the shots because we would use the timings of the original video and convert them into our own remake.
We also had the storyboard with us when editing the shots so we could easily locate and understand in what order the shots need to be added in to.
Things that made it hard to edit the music video:
As myself and my pair were not familiar with the software we used we had to figure out ourselves what we had to do - this slowed us down because we had to learn how to use the software before we actually started editing.
Sometimes it was hard to locate the folder where the footage was saved in, and when we did find it we had to find the particular shots we needed. As we shot in a non-linear way and we didn't follow the order chronologically, the shots were in the wrong order so it was sometimes difficult to find the shots.
When we had to render the videos there were some problems because the music was a little out of sync - but when we finally managed to put it all in sync the rendering of the video was much easier and it worked out well.
